Should Santa be Allowed to Come to School?

Recently, I have read these two articles that have been about the issue of if Santa Claus should be allowed in the classroom or not. In the article Santa Claus can go to school but not to class I have read that the Forth Worth school district is not allowing Santa Claus or any other holiday characters into the classroom during teaching. Furthermore, gift or card exchanges cannot be done during class too. It can only be done before or after school and during lunch. I really do not see this as a problem for it allows the students to focus more on school work, and it is not like exchanging gifts is banned. The only thing that I have a problem is regarding the holiday characters not being able to go to the classes.
If my school district adopts this policy, then changes would be made in the classroom. Instead of being able to make some lessons involving Santa Claus or other characters, new lessons and new ways of celebrating the holidays would have to be made up. The schedule would probably be changed too if it is impossible to finish the gift exchange during lunch. Christmas parties would have to be held before or after school, but some students have a bus to catch after school and going before school would be too early. If ever something like this happened in my district I would probably try to let the kids finish all their work early on in the week, and once everyone is done hold a party on the last day of school when their is no teaching going on. Technically, the characters cannot visit the classroom while the teachers are teaching, but if they are not then it should be okay for them. Holidays are important I believe and without something to look forward to in school, it would be boring for the students. To help the students reach of the stars then we should let them have some well deserved fun in class.

Favorite Internet Teaching Resource Site

Recently, I have visited this website called Busy Teacher Cafe. This website has lesson plans for k-6 grade teachers who are busy and don't have time to create a lesson plan on their own time. This website has lesson plans for upcoming holidays, and they also have a lot of exciting activities for the little kids to do. I have found this to be a great, life-saving, less time consuming website for teachers. Even though for some of the holidays, there are no lesson plans made, it is still a useful place to go to.
Here is a link to the website: Busy Teacher Cafe
I believe that this is a useful website not only for teachers but for inters as well who are short on time and/or have no lessons planned out for a certain day or week.

Week 4 - Procrastination

Procrastination is a terrible thing that everyone false victim to once in a while. It is something that I fall into most everyday. I remember one day in class when we needed to do our "How to Demonstration" in class. The assignment was basically to show everyone how to do something and mine was how to draw a cartoon character. This was I had enjoyed because I love drawing, but love for something doesn't always mean that you won't procrastinate in doing it.
Well, I always like to procrastinate, but it never does me - as I am sure this goes out to everyone too- any good. I procrastinated until about 10 minutes before I had to go up in front of the class and do my assignment. If it wasn't for already knowing how to draw, I wouldn't have done really well. I didn't get a 100 because I wasn't well prepared, but I was fortunate enough to have received a 95. Procrastination is deadly, and my grades would've suffered if I wasn't so lucky. Not procrastinating is a great way for people and you to AIM FOR THE STARS!

Week 3 - Leadership Activity

There are a bunch of leadership activities that one can do and find if they look hard enough. At my field site I had found that a leadership activity that I can do is to help out with the gardening that is done over there. In my education and training class I can also do some activities for both TAFE and FCCLA. Those two organizations have activities and competitions for everyone who is in it to do. Leadership activities help everyone to

Week 2 At My Field Site

In my class, I have noticed that I have a student who is an auditory learner. I have found this out after when he was sent outside of the classroom to finish a lesson by himself because he was being disruptive in class. I went outside to help him get the lesson done and to help him catch up. He had started reading aloud to himself and to me, and I've noticed that he's been understanding the lesson better once he was done reading. At times he would say one word when another word was written down, but after he tries to sound it out he gets it right. Even though it is not much of a proof, it hints a little about what his learning style is.
Finding out what your learning style is would be a great way of helping do better at school and at the same time would help you

Week 1 At My Field Site

During my first my first week at my field site, I was surprised at how it was. Everyone at the school wore some kind of uniform, and I enjoyed see that. What I really enjoyed was my classroom and the class that I would be interning at. The class was cluttered and disorganized, but this had meant more work and fun for me. The more I have to do in a classroom means that I won't end up being bored and that I will be able to learn several things on how to stay organized. My teacher was fantastic as well. She is never afraid to speak about what is on her mind, and her way of teaching her class, which is stressing, is something that I must learn from.
The class is loud and at times disruptive. When one is trying to teach or explain a lesson, several start talking out loud and start being disrespectful. Some of the students are really sweet at times, and despite the well behaved (or misbehaved) the class is, I am still looking forward this semester working with them. Working hard and aiming high is my goal. Trying to overcome obstacles like this will help me grow and help me

Image Scrimmage

During the image scrimmage at my school, I had graded those who had read a book to me, and I had also done several of activities as well. One of those activities was having my teacher ask me a question of what I would do if a certain situation arose. I had answered the question to the best of my abilities but it wasn't without any errors. One thing I learned is that if someone throws up in class, you don't clean it. Rather, you call a janitor to come and get it for you because of germ problems.  What I had answered correctly was that once the student throws up is to have the student go to the nurse with someone to accompany them. Now, if a situation occurs when someone throws up, I will now know what to do.

Letter to my Students Regarding Social Media

Dear Friends,
I know that we don’t know each other, but there are some things that I must write about to let you know. There are things out there that our parents and ancestors never had to face, new dangers around every corner. As technology grows we get used to using them but forget the dangers that may occur. When putting our information out in the digital world we may become a victim and an easy target. People can find out information about us just by looking at our profiles in Facebook, Twitter, and other websites.
We need to take care of ourselves and protect our privacies. Many people will take advantage of the fact that they now have your phone number or the address to your house. You can be stalked and become a prey. Creepy people from the mall or your exes can get your life story off the Internet.
If you posted something on the Internet, would your parents or grandparents approve? If not then it’s not something that you should post. Don’t post immoral or disapproving things because you might end up regretting it. Whatever is posted online will remain there forever. Even if you think you have deleted it… it’s still there. Colleges can get a background check done on you and will Google search you or ask Facebook for your background check, and those immoral/illegal stuff that you had did and posted online will ruin your chances on getting in.
Also, people will tell on you for what you post on Facebook. If you smoke illegally or are not yet of drinking age and post pictures of yourself drinking you will be caught.
Please be careful and take great care of yourself. Do not let foolish stuff keep you from aiming for the stars.

Your Friend,
Sabina F.

Facebook

So, I have just read this blog post of what facebook does to kids' brain. Here's the link to this webpage: What Facebook Does. Does everyone act the same on facebook as they do in real life? Well, I can truthfully tell you that the answer to that is a no for I am one of those people who doesn't always act the same. On facebook I feel much more confident. It helps me socialize much better than I do in real life, but even though having computer skills is needed for one's future, one must also be able to socialize in the real world.
Facebook helps me and I bet a lot of other people to get along well with other online but that does not mean that we have to spend the rest of our lives on the computer. I agree with this article here except with the little comment, "In other words, it's kind of like middle school," for I have never actually been to a public middle school. In other words I cannot really support that statement, but maybe you all do agree with it because you know how it feels.
I would not really stop using facebook though because it is a technology that a teacher can use in their classrooms. The teachers can make a facebook page and post homework assignments and other things which is helpful to the students. This is a way the students can know what they should be doing, and it can help them... AIM FOR THE STARS!!!

Technologies in My Future Classroom

In the future when I start teaching either music, art, or both, I can see my classroom having giant white board screen which can be used to skype with others and tour the parts of the world with it to show my students how art/music is depicted with different cultures. I can also see high tech touch laptops that the students can use to edit their photos creatively and create or edit their recorded music as well. I cannot wait for the technologies of the future to come out. I love using MAC laptops because of the great graphics, and if they can continue to advance greatly then the kids of the future are in for a treat. These are ways that can help people....
AIM FOR THE STARS!!!

Hi Hi

Welcome to my blog. This is my first time blogging, and I hope that you all will enjoy yourself. My blog will basically be about me in my field site seeing how I can improve myself everyday to become a better teacher in the future and I would also do some extra stuff as well. I want to aim as high as I can go, and I want to help the younger kids as well, hence, the title Aim for the Stars... or maybe I should change it to Aim for the Edge of the Galaxy or something. It is further away (if there is an edge) than the stars. Well, take care everyone and remember...
